STV has received a 2022 Honorable Mention Award in Electrical Power Systems Engineering from the Philadelphia Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE) for its work on the Wayne Junction Static Frequency Converter (SFC) Station Rehabilitation project.
For this program, the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) selected STV to provide comprehensive architectural and engineering services for its $66 million Wayne Junction SFC Station project. The project encompasses the rehabilitation of three SFCs and the installation of a new 15-MVA unit (existing station pictured above). The goal of the project is to increase total station power capacity to 60 MVA and improve service reliability for SEPTA’s customers.
STV provided a myriad of services, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fire protection, geotechnical, structural, environmental engineering, cost estimating, quality assurance oversight, and project management services.
“Our team has done an amazing job on this project,” said project manager Brandon Swartley. “We were tasked with integrating modern SFC technologies with the existing station infrastructure. It was imperative that the design allowed for the station to remain operational during construction to continue serving the Delaware Valley Region.”
STV’s team finished the final design in 2021 and has continued supporting this project through its construction phase.
Late last year, Swartley was named the 2022 Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) Philadelphia Section for his technical leadership and engineering management on this project.
The PSPE will present STV with the award on February 25 at the chapter’s annual banquet.
