42nd Street–Bryant Park and 5th Avenue Station Accessibility Upgrades

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Construction & Development selected STV as project management consultant for a multi-station program advancing ADA accessibility at 42nd Street–Bryant Park and 5th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The program will create accessible routes from platform to street through new elevators and improvements to boarding areas, fare control, stairs, ramps and other station facilities.

What challenges is STV addressing?

The accessibility improvements must be delivered in complex, high-ridership subway environments while maintaining safe, continuous operations. The program also requires coordination across design-build and design-bid-build packages while minimizing impacts on riders, surrounding businesses and the public.

What solutions is STV delivering?

STV will manage the program from construction through commissioning. The firm’s role includes early risk and conflict identification, advanced scheduling and controls, coordination among project delivery packages and progressive commissioning. This integrated project management approach is intended to maintain schedule and budget control throughout delivery.

How will this project benefit the community?

The improvements will create more accessible routes between platforms and the street, making it easier for riders with mobility needs to navigate these Midtown stations. The program also contributes to the MTA’s broader systemwide accessibility initiative, which targets ADA access at 95% of stations by 2055.
