Montgomery County Community College Advanced Technology Center

Montgomery County Community College’s 61,000‑square‑foot Advanced Technology Center (ATC) serves as a major academic hub supporting interdisciplinary education in the humanities, sciences, technology and business. STV provided full architectural and engineering design services for the four‑story building, which brings together multiple academic divisions – including Humanities, Social Science, Math/Science/Advanced Technologies, Information Technology and Business/Computer Science – into a single, collaborative learning environment. The ATC’s forward‑looking design reinforces the college’s commitment to innovation, access and workforce development.

What challenges did STV address?

The college sought a signature academic facility that could support diverse instructional needs while creating a strong sense of community and intellectual engagement. STV needed to integrate specialized teaching spaces – ranging from cyber labs to media studios – with flexible classrooms, lounges and student‑focused amenities. The team was also responsible for designing exterior site features such as walkways, landscaping, hardscaping and parking to ensure the building was seamlessly integrated into the campus environment.

What solutions did STV deliver?

STV designed the ATC with a three‑story glass atrium that serves as a vibrant gathering space and focal point for the building. A multilevel cyber tower with full internet access, a small rooftop observatory, smart classrooms, radio and television studios and advanced teaching labs reflect the Center’s interdisciplinary mission. STV provided architecture, civil and structural engineering, mechanical and electrical design, interior design, landscape architecture and site planning to deliver a cohesive, high‑performance learning facility.

How does this project benefit the community?

The ATC strengthens the college’s academic programming, expands opportunities in STEM and the arts and creates modern learning environments that prepare students for today’s technical and creative fields. The building supports cross‑disciplinary collaboration, enhances campus life, and reinforces the institution’s role as a regional leader in accessible, future‑ready education.
