Barclays Center Arena & Atlantic Yard Relocation

Since opening in 2012, the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, is one of the New York Metropolitan region’s premier indoor venues, hosting top tier entertainment and sports events, while serving as a model for sustainable design.

On behalf of the Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC), STV provided owner’s representative services during the construction of the Barclays Center and the relocation of the Atlantic Yards as part of the larger Atlantic Yards Redevelopment, now known as Pacific Park.

During construction, STV’s team monitored and recommended actions for all areas of this $4.9 billion project. Focusing on work progress and safety, STV led the design reviews required to confirm the developer’s compliance with ESDC’s project design guidelines. The Vanderbilt Yard was a key focus area for the developer’s contractor and STV. The scope of work called for lowering the northern half of the yard while the southern half remained in service. This required extensive pile-driving and tieback installation to support the excavation, as well as a unique temporary structural support system to support an existing car shop along the north side of the yard.

STV’s hands-on design approach, field expertise, and technology-driven project controls systems enabled the successful orchestration and outcome of the project.
