Boston Landing Station

The Boston Landing Station was designed by STV as part of a groundbreaking public‑private partnership (P3) between NB Development Group and Massachusetts transportation officials. Located on a former industrial site in the Allston‑Brighton neighborhood, the station provides a vital commuter rail connection to the Boston Landing development – home to New Balance’s world headquarters and premier practice facilities for the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics. When fully complete, the 15‑acre district will deliver 2.15 million square feet of office, lab, retail, residential, hotel, entertainment and sports space, transforming a long‑underused site into a vibrant mixed‑use destination.

What challenges did STV address?

Boston Landing required a new transit station that could seamlessly integrate into the active MBTA Framingham/Worcester Line while coordinating with private development, state transportation agencies and community stakeholders. STV needed to guide the Commonwealth’s first P3 transit facility agreement, return commuter rail service to the area for the first time in 50 years and support a coordinated, multimodal vision that aligned with long‑term neighborhood redevelopment.

What solutions did STV deliver?

STV served as the lead planner and designer for the new station, preparing all technical details required for P3 approvals. The firm delivered architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and pedestrian circulation design services. STV ensured the station fully supported the development’s goals, improved transit access, and aligned operationally with MBTA system needs – all within a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment.

How does this project benefit the region?

The station enhances mobility for commuters, residents, and visitors, providing direct rail access to one of Boston’s most dynamic mixed‑use districts. It supports economic growth, encourages transit‑oriented development and strengthens regional connectivity by filling a longstanding gap in commuter rail access.
