Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign

The Brooklyn Bus Network Redesign is an initiative by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit aimed at enhancing bus travel speed and reliability in Brooklyn. This ambitious project encompassed reimagining bus routes, stops and operating frequencies to better align with modern commuting patterns.

STV played a crucial role in this planning study by conducting extensive evaluations of existing bus conditions and developing innovative tools to assess operational improvements. The team created a complex yet user-friendly spreadsheet model that allowed MTA staff to experiment with various service scenarios, optimizing route frequencies based on projected ridership and other key factors.

As part of this program, STV had to help the MTA address pandemic-related shifts in ridership while also engaging the community through various public meetings. The process ultimately led to a proposed plan that reflects the needs of evolving Brooklyn demographics and aspires to create a more efficient bus network that benefits approximately 625,000 passengers daily.

Optimizing bus transportation in one of the most populated regions of the country.
