Shippensburg University Ceddia Union Building

Shippensburg University expanded and modernized its Ceddia Union Building (CUB) to better support a growing student population and strengthen its role as the heart of campus life. Previously serving as an undersized snack bar, convenience store and dining facility, the three‑story building underwent a comprehensive renovation and two major additions – one totaling 58,204 square feet and another 8,500 square feet. STV provided construction management services for this multi‑phased program through an open‑ended contract with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, ensuring the CUB remained partially accessible to students and community members throughout construction.

What challenges did STV address?

The university sought to transform an outdated facility into a dynamic, multi‑use student hub while maintaining active campus operations. STV needed to carefully manage phasing to maintain continued access to dining, meeting and student support spaces. The scope included expanding food service capabilities, creating new multipurpose venues and integrating modern technology and amenities – all while coordinating multiple contractors and maintaining schedule efficiency.

What solutions did STV deliver?

STV oversaw all aspects of construction delivery, including renovation of the existing building and construction of both large additions. Upgrades included an expanded kitchen and dining area, a two‑story multipurpose room, a 400‑seat amphitheater, a media center, a food court, lounges, a bookstore and enhanced student activity spaces. STV’s phasing strategy enabled continuous building use, ensuring minimal disruption to university life.

How does this project benefit the community?

The revitalized CUB strengthens student engagement by providing flexible gathering spaces, expanded dining options and modern amenities that support events, academic collaboration and social connection. The upgraded facility now serves as a central hub for campus culture and community interaction.
