To better serve the City of Phoenix, Valley Metro Rail initiated the design and construction of a maintenance and storage facility in concert with the development of a new light rail system. STV, as a subconsultant to the general engineering consultant, prepared final design and construction documents, as well as provided design support services during the construction of a bridge replacement that connected to the new storage facility.

The 48th Street Maintenance and Storage Facility consists of a three-story, 136,000-square-foot maintenance-of-equipment shop with a basement; an 18,000-square-foot maintenance-of-way building; a 7,700-square-foot light rail vehicle wash building; and a paint shop.
