CTfastrak New Britain to Hartford Busway

Running 9.4 miles between New Britain and Hartford, CTfastrak is the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s bus rapid transit (BRT) system serving more than 14,000 daily riders. As part of this transformative regional mobility investment, STV provided construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services for a 2.2‑mile segment of the corridor, an essential portion of the system linking communities to job centers, educational institutions and state government.

What challenges did STV address?

The project required the delivery of high‑quality, durable infrastructure within a constrained and active urban environment. STV’s role demanded careful coordination across multiple work zones, structural elements and active roadways. The team needed to ensure materials, structures and roadway elements met stringent performance and safety standards while minimizing impacts to ongoing transportation operations.

What solutions did STV deliver?

STV oversaw construction of two new passenger stations, thousands of feet of retaining walls, a multiuse trail and three bridges – most notably a 638‑foot span crossing two active highways. The team inspected materials and construction across the corridor, including bituminous paving, drainage, barrier curbing, guiderail, signalized crossings, chain‑link fencing and a diverse suite of structural wall types such as cast‑in‑place, prefabricated, MSE, modular and noise walls.

How does this project benefit the region?

CTfastrak enhances mobility throughout Connecticut’s Capitol Region, offering faster travel times, improved reliability and stronger multimodal connections. STV’s oversight helped ensure the system’s long‑term safety, resilience and performance for the thousands of passengers who rely on it daily.
