Delaware Army National Guard (DEARNG) Vehicle Maintenance Facility

Under a design-build contract, STV provided architecture and engineering services for the design of a new Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) for the DEARNG. The new VMF replaced an existing facility on the site and is a 16,357-square-foot one-story structure. The facility houses oversized work bays (equipped with overhead cranes), offices, training areas, tool rooms, storage areas, and support spaces for the maintenance of DEARNG military vehicles.

The project was designed to and achieved LEED® NC 2009 Silver Certification. The team utilized an integrated design process for the building envelope and systems to meet the energy conservation requirements. This approach was implemented through all phases of the design process and incorporated the use of energy simulation software to guide design decisions and enhance the overall life-cycle cost efficiency of the facility.

The design-build team of Wohlsen/STV planned a phased construction to allow for the continuous operation of the existing Army National Guard Facility in support of the Guard’s ongoing mission.
