Fantasy Harbour Bridge

For the millions of visitors and residents traveling to Myrtle Beach each year, the Fantasy Harbour Bridge provides a critical connection to some of the region’s most popular attractions. Spanning the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, the new five‑lane bridge links directly to the Fantasy Harbour Interchange at the US 17 Bypass. Designed with community access in mind, the structure also features a dedicated multi‑use path that safely accommodates pedestrians and bicyclists.

What challenges did STV address?

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) required a modern, resilient crossing that could handle growing traffic volumes, improve safety and enhance multimodal access. The project also needed to address environmental considerations related to the Intracoastal Waterway, incorporate public feedback and coordinate right‑of‑way adjustments and roadway approaches across more than three miles of corridor.

What solutions did STV deliver?

STV provided comprehensive design services, including an environmental assessment, geotechnical documentation, public involvement efforts and right‑of‑way plans. The firm developed final roadway and bridge designs for 3.1 miles of approaches, as well as all drainage components – from closed systems to bridge hydraulics and scour analysis. STV’s integrated approach verified environmental compliance, structural efficiency and a safer, more accessible connection for motorists and non‑motorists alike.

How does this project benefit the region?

The Fantasy Harbour Bridge improves mobility and enhances safety along a major tourism corridor, strengthening access to Myrtle Beach’s entertainment, hospitality and commercial destinations. Its multimodal pathway supports active transportation, contributing to a more connected and visitor‑friendly coastal community.
