The U.S. Army sought to create a modern, mission‑ready headquarters complex at Fort Stewart, Georgia, that would support the 4th Infantry Combat Brigade’s operational needs while fostering a sense of community and home life for its soldiers. To achieve this, the Savannah District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers advanced a new three‑story Brigade and Battalion Headquarters facility featuring administrative spaces, secure mission areas, shopping amenities and recreation facilities.
What challenges did STV address?
The project required a headquarters complex that balanced military readiness with quality‑of‑life features, while also integrating strict federal security requirements. The design team needed to achieve architectural cohesion with Southern Colonial Revival themes, incorporate highly specialized operational spaces – including a Secure Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) – and deliver a facility fully aligned with modern Army mission support standards.
What solutions did STV deliver?
As designer‑of‑record on the Mortenson‑led design‑build team, STV provided full architecture, interiors, and engineering services. Using Building Information Modeling (BIM), the team developed a comprehensive 3‑D model to guide coordination and integrate the Southern Colonial Revival aesthetic into the building’s exterior expression. Inside, STV designed mission‑critical spaces including the Brigade Operations Center, Network Operations Center, administrative suites, classrooms and specialized secure environments.
How does this project benefit the installation?
The new headquarters enhances operational efficiency, improves the soldier work environment, and strengthens the brigade’s readiness. The facility brings critical services, training functions, and community‑oriented amenities together under one roof, supporting both mission execution and soldier well‑being.
