The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority envisions an expansive bus rapid transit (BRT) network throughout the county’s heavily trafficked corridors. That’s because BRT offers the benefits of light rail — high capacity, frequent service and active stations — without the cost of rail track and facilities. Metro’s G Line, formerly the Orange Line, provides 24/7 bus service to reduce traffic congestion in the San Fernando Valley, connecting commuters between Chatsworth and North Hollywood.
STV performed preliminary engineering, design development and construction support services for the design-build project. The innovative, 13-station BRT line travels along a former railroad right-of-way, bypassing traffic on Los Angeles’ busy streets and limiting the BRT’s impact on motorists. The system has consistently increased usage over the past few years and is a benchmark for Metro’s plans for future BRT lines across Los Angeles County.
