G Line Bus Rapid Transit

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is advancing a countywide bus rapid transit (BRT) network to provide fast, reliable, and high‑capacity transit service along heavily traveled corridors. At the core of this vision is the G Line – formerly the Orange Line – which provides 24/7 BRT service connecting Chatsworth and North Hollywood. Operating along a former railroad right‑of‑way, the G Line bypasses street congestion, allowing buses to operate with the speed and dependability of light rail, but with significantly lower capital costs.

What challenges did STV address?

Metro needed to modernize and expand BRT infrastructure to keep pace with rising ridership and deliver rail‑like service reliability. Achieving these goals required detailed engineering to optimize the corridor’s operations and station design, while also supporting an active construction environment along one of the San Fernando Valley’s busiest transit spines.

What solutions did STV deliver?

As part of the design‑build team, STV delivered preliminary engineering, design development and construction support services for 13 BRT stations along the line. The team’s work included civil, electrical and mechanical/HVAC engineering, supporting efficient station layouts, improved passenger amenities and corridor enhancements that reduced travel times and improved operational performance. The corridor’s innovative alignment along a former rail right‑of‑way allowed the design to maximize transit speed while minimizing impacts on motorists.

How does this project benefit the region?

The G Line has become a model for future BRT corridors across Los Angeles County. By easing congestion, offering 24/7 reliability and providing a high‑capacity alternative to driving, the corridor supports sustainable mobility and enhances access throughout the San Fernando Valley.
