In Hazle Township, PA, STV spearheaded the design of a new 50,000-square-foot bus maintenance and storage facility on behalf of Hazleton Public Transit (HPT). The facility represents one of the largest projects ever undertaken by this local agency. To help support the project’s construction, HPT received a $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program, which provides federal resources for fixed-route service providers to develop a more efficient and sustainable public transport system.
The new facility houses the local fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses and features a CNG fueling station on an approximately four-acre site north of the Hazleton Regional Airport. Additionally, it provides climate-controlled indoor storage for approximately 20 to 25 buses, with three full bus maintenance bays, a bus washer and a comprehensive administrative and training area.
STV provided overall project management, civil and site design, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, industrial, environmental and communications design, and overall project quality assurance for this facility. During construction, STV also supported the contractor with shop drawing review, review of change order requests, as-built documentation and construction closeout.
