Logan International Airport Fan Room Upgrades

As part of an ongoing program being conducted by Massport that upgraded aging HVAC equipment that reached the end of its serviceable life at Logan International Airport in Boston, MA, STV provided engineering design services for the replacement of new air handler units in two fan rooms within the airport’s Terminal B. The new technology marked the completion of the first phase of plans to replace the constant volume system currently used to heat and cool departure gates for various carriers.

STV worked closely with Massport, to develop a conditions report outlining preliminary architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural designs and construction phase for completing the work. The specified replacement units are 36’ x 12’ x 13’ in dimension, but each has different airflow capacities. The new equipment meets modern code requirements for economizers, energy recovery and variable speed fans and should help the client realize operational energy savings over the life of the systems.

Modernizing vital mechanical equipment and creating operational energy savings over the life of the systems for the client.
