The 8.5-mile Lynnwood Link Extension expands Sound Transit’s light rail network from Northgate into Snohomish County, with four stations serving Shoreline South/148th, Shoreline North/185th, Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood City Center.
This $3.1 billion project offers fast, frequent and reliable service, connecting south Snohomish County to the University of Washington in just 11 minutes, downtown Seattle in 28 minutes and Sea-Tac Airport in 56 minutes, with future connections to Seattle’s Eastside via the East Link. Sound Transit estimates the Lynnwood Link will accommodate 25,000 to 34,000 daily boardings.
STV, in joint venture with Mott MacDonald, oversaw the systems construction for this light rail project. The team, known as Northwest Transit Systems Partners, provided technical review, construction management, quality assurance and inspection services for the extension’s traction power, communications, signaling and train control systems, contributing to the efficient operation of trains as well as helping create a safe and reliable experience for commuters.
