CATS Blue Line

The Charlotte Area Transit System’s (CATS) Blue Line light rail system has been a tremendous boon for the City of Charlotte since it first opened, generating more than a billion dollars in economic activity throughout the corridor while far exceeding projected ridership numbers.

For this landmark initiative, STV performed project management support services, including design review and constructability analysis of trackwork, facilities and system elements, during the design and construction of the 9.6-mile light rail line.

The Blue Line connects Uptown Charlotte south to I-485. The design program consisted of 15 stations along the light rail alignment including the Convention Center Station, which hosts various special events. Additionally, there is an uptown transportation hub that connects with bus transit, park-and-ride lots and parking decks. STV oversaw the installation, testing and commissioning of communications systems along the line and performed construction management services. As part of an ongoing contract amendment, STV provides operational support services in all the systems areas.

Providing an economic engine for the Charlotte with the region's first light rail transit system.
