Under a task order with the New York City School Construction Authority, STV provided program management and construction management services for the adaptive reuse of a partially completed commercial building in Corona to become a high-performance 3K educational facility. The project’s aim was to quickly expand early childhood capacity with nurturing learning spaces, high-performance infrastructure and sustainable systems.
What challenges did STV face?
STV had to work within an aggressive timeline, retrofit an existing building for a new educational use and verify the design met the New York City standards for 3K schools. The adaptive reuse required coordination across architectural, structural, mechanical and code systems, all while delivering high performance in energy, indoor environment and durability.
What solutions did STV deliver?
STV guided the renovation to convert the building into a functioning 3K center, including seven classrooms across two floors, administrative spaces, a medical room, a parent lounge, a kitchen and a padded playroom. The team supported integration of high-performance envelope and systems, efficient layouts and infrastructure upgrades consistent with educational building standards.
