New York City School Bus Zero-Emission Transformation

As one of the largest school bus systems in the nation, New York City School Bus Umbrella Services (NYCSBUS) is looking to transition its fleet to zero-emissions technology. In support of this initiative, STV provided comprehensive advisory services, including project review, application development, schedule management, technical writing and review, as well as overall strategy for a $29.5 million grant application issued by the federal Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Schools Bus Grant Program. This funding will allow NYCSBUS to purchase 100 electric school buses and 100 electric chargers as well as electrical infrastructure upgrades at the Zerega Avenue Depot.

NYCSBUS was among 67 recipients nationwide to share in this funding, which was issued by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. These awards empower selectees to acquire more than 2,700 clean school buses in 280 school districts, serving more than seven million students across 37 states.  The program expedites the transition to low- and zero-emission vehicles, aiming to enhance the air quality for children and their families, promote environmental justice, stimulate the economy and create well-paying jobs.
