More than 75 years after Kutztown University’s Schaeffer Auditorium first opened, the university’s performing arts underwent an extensive renovation. The renovation of the existing three-level auditorium included the replacement of the original slate roof and wood windows and doors; replacement of stage rigging, theater lighting and new AV systems and motorized acoustic banners; replacement of the existing 755 fixed seats with new fixed seating for 826; and replacement of existing window treatments with new motorized blackout window shades and draperies.
STV served as owner’s representative and provided construction management services for the complete renovation of the 32,000-square-foot Schaeffer Auditorium building, as well as a 23,000-square-foot building addition.
The new L-shaped addition includes new “smart technology” music classrooms and two rehearsal rooms with a 2,500-square-foot large rehearsal hall for the school’s music department, which was designed acoustically to accommodate the marching band practices without any sound transfers into adjacent classroom spaces.
