Seattle Center Monorail Station Upgrades

The Seattle Center Monorail has been an iconic part of the city’s transit network since the 1962 World’s Fair, carrying nearly two million passengers a year along its 0.9‑mile route between downtown Seattle and Seattle Center. To support long‑term accessibility, safety and operational improvements, Seattle Center selected STV to provide program management and construction management services for major upgrades at the monorail terminal and throughout the surrounding 74‑acre campus. The initiative enhances the rider experience at a gateway location adjacent to the Space Needle, Climate Pledge Arena and other major cultural destinations.

What challenges is STV addressing?

Modernizing a historic landmark within a dense cultural campus requires careful planning, stakeholder coordination and compliance with Federal Transit Administration requirements. The program also needed to improve ADA accessibility, upgrade systems and plan procurement under complex public‑agency protocols while minimizing impacts to daily visitors and ongoing venue operations.

What solutions is STV delivering?

STV is developing General Contractor/Construction Manager procurement strategies and providing preconstruction services, including RFQ development, bid evaluations, contract negotiation support, cost analysis and schedule reconciliation. The team is coordinating campuswide ADA improvements, safety enhancements and architectural upgrades while aligning with Seattle Center’s operational priorities and federal requirements.

How will this project benefit the community?

The upgrades will strengthen transit access for residents and visitors, improve safety and accessibility and enhance the passenger experience at one of Seattle’s most visited destinations. A modernized monorail station supports tourism, local mobility and the long‑term vitality of the Seattle Center campus.
