Terminal B Redevelopment at LaGuardia Airport

LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is now regarded as one of the world’s top airports thanks to a sweeping, $8 billion redevelopment program. Elevating the airport into a modern, unified facility, Terminal B has been wholly transformed into a 1.3-million-square-foot facility with two “island” concourses and 35 gates.

STV, as part of a joint venture, served as construction manager for the new Terminal B, which, since opening in 2020, won UNESCO’s Prix Versailles, a global architecture and design award that recognizes the best new airport in the world. Designed to serve the airport’s growing number of passengers, the terminal also received a five-star rating from Skytrax—the first terminal in North America to achieve this rating.

Terminal B features an 850,000-square-foot, four-story arrivals and departures hall, two parking garages, a new service entry substation, elevated roadways, and new and upgraded utilities. The eastern and western concourses are connected to the main hall by elevated steel truss pedestrian skybridges. There are active aircraft taxiways under the dual skybridges.

Demonstrating the value placed on the project’s sustainability, the U.S. Green Building Council awarded Terminal B LEED® Version 4 Gold certification. It also won an inaugural Special Achievement Award from the National Academy of Construction.
