Terminal B Redevelopment at LaGuardia Airport

Part of LaGuardia Airport’s sweeping $8‑billion transformation, the Terminal B Redevelopment has reshaped one of the nation’s busiest airports into a state‑of‑the‑art gateway for the New York metropolitan region. The project delivered a modern, 1.3‑million‑square‑foot terminal featuring two island concourses, 35 gates, elevated roadways and signature architectural elements that connect passengers to a dramatically improved travel experience. The new Terminal B includes an 850,000‑square‑foot arrivals and departures hall, two parking garages, a new service entry substation, upgraded utilities and infrastructure and dual pedestrian skybridges that allow aircraft to taxi beneath them – an airport industry first.

What challenges did STV address?

The redevelopment required reconstructing an active airport terminal while maintaining continuous operations for travelers and airlines. The project demanded tight coordination among multiple contractors and stakeholders, complex airside and landside phasing and the integration of significant infrastructure upgrades. STV also supported sustainability goals for a major facility seeking LEED® v4 Gold certification.

What solutions did STV deliver?

As part of a joint venture, STV provided construction management and project controls services for the multi‑phase program. STV managed the sequencing of construction for the new arrivals and departures hall, concourses, roadway systems, parking structures and utilities. The team oversaw schedule and cost performance, contractor coordination and quality control to ensure aircraft operations and passenger services remained uninterrupted throughout construction.

How does this project benefit the region?

Terminal B provides passengers with a modern, unified travel experience featuring spacious amenities, intuitive passenger flow, reduced congestion and enhanced operational efficiency. Its award‑winning design positions LaGuardia as one of the world’s top airports and strengthens New York’s role as a global transportation hub.
