Illinois Tollway selected STV to provide construction management services for the fast-track, simultaneous retrofit of four tolling plazas at three locations on the Tri-State Tollway from manual operation to an open road, electronic configurations capable of collection at expressway speeds.
The team’s scope included overseeing construction for all the roadway/plaza improvements at the northbound Plaza 39 at milepost 19.5 (83rd Street), the southbound Plaza 36 at milepost 19.8 (82nd Street), Plaza 35 at milepost 30,0 (Cermak Road) and Plaza 33 at milepost 39.0 (Irving Park Road) in Chicago.
STV supervised the reconstruction and reconfiguration of concrete pavement for the new lanes, reconstruction of the southbound ramps to Irving Park Road, construction of a new bridge carrying the ramp traffic over Irving Park Road and widening of shoulders and a mainline bridge at the Irving Park Road Plaza location. All locations also included landscaping, toll plaza building modifications and electronic toll collection facilities.
