Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s (PTC) Turnpike Industrial Park (TIP) Building underwent extensive renovations for a multi-phase program to outfit the commission’s vital data center and traffic operations facility.
STV served as construction manager and construction inspector for the building’s renovation, monitoring schedule and cost controls and provided on-site inspections to verify compliance with contract documents.
The program’s first phase transformed a single-story facility into a 103,000-square-foot Tier 3 Data Center, complete with a PBX Room and associated mechanical and electrical support spaces and systems. For the second phase, a 13,174-square-foot traffic operations center (TOC) outfits the facility with a high-tech communications hub. The TOC houses computer monitors and cameras, allowing controllers to monitor and manage the entire PTC network.
Sections of the TIP Building were occupied during the renovations, so all demolition and construction work needed to be coordinated to allow the occupants to go about their activities while maintaining uninterrupted continuity of utility and communications connectivity.
