U.S. Coast Guard Houston-Galveston Sector Building

In 2008, Hurricane Ike caused massive flooding along a swath of the Florida Panhandle stretching to the Texas coast. Among the storm’s casualties was the Sector Field Office of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) in Galveston, TX, which sustained substantial structural damage.

Relocated to a 19.7-acre site in Houston, the new 111,500-square-foot building includes office and training spaces, command centers, a data center, medical and dental facilities, shops, berthing rooms, a cafeteria, a fitness center and support spaces.

STV served as the designer of record as part of a design-build team, delivering a new four-story, USCG Sector Field Office, as well as upgrades to site utilities, stormwater management and a rainwater harvesting tank. The firm provided civil, landscape, architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection and electrical design services. Revit 3-D BIM software was used in the design, which meets the requirements of Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection and was developed to achieve LEED® Silver certification.

This program was nationally recognized by the Design-Build Institute of America with a Project/Team Award.
