Vallejo Transit Center

Designed to reflect Vallejo’s maritime heritage, the Vallejo Transit Center serves as both a civic landmark and a key mobility hub supporting the city’s downtown revitalization. Inspired by clipper ship sails and a steamliner stack, the $8.7 million facility was envisioned by the City of Vallejo as a signature project to strengthen multimodal connections and increase ridership on the Baylink Ferry. STV was selected to design the Transit Center and deliver a cohesive plan to reorganize transit operations, enhance pedestrian mobility and create a stronger link between downtown Vallejo and the waterfront.

What challenges did STV address?

The City sought to transform a fragmented transit area into a unified, intuitive and visually compelling center that improved circulation and supported growing ridership. This required reconfiguring downtown parking, relocating transit operations without disrupting service and designing a streetscape that encouraged pedestrian flow toward the ferry terminal. The project also needed to integrate identity-driven architectural elements to reinforce Vallejo’s cultural character.

What solutions did STV deliver?

STV prepared a master plan to reorganize transit functions and designed a center‑island platform with 12 bus bays shaded by six tensile membrane canopies. The firm also designed a landscaped promenade connecting downtown to the ferry and a new 4,500‑square‑foot, two‑story support and public information building. Architectural and landscape architecture services ensured the Transit Center delivered both functional performance and iconic design.

How does this project benefit the region?

The Transit Center strengthens connections between bus and ferry services, enhances downtown walkability and supports Vallejo’s economic resurgence. By creating an attractive, efficient transit hub, the project encourages multimodal travel and improves the commuter experience.
