Worcester County Medical and Intake Facility

The Worcester County Jail and House of Corrections hold defendants temporarily before their arraignments, pretrial hearings and sentencings, while also providing detainee housing. After identifying space and operational challenges, the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) contracted with STV to design a new medical/intake unit.

During a feasibility study, STV developed four conceptualized alternatives before DCAMM selected the final design. Featuring a separate medical treatment space from intake processing, the facility streamlines operations and provides comfortable detainee housing for up to 28 individuals and medical housing for 26.

The modern, light-filled, two-story space allows for intake and processing services for approximately 60 detainees per day, operating 24/7 year-round to serve as a regional resource for local chiefs of police during nights, holidays and weekends.

A spacious, modern medical-intake facility streamlines operations for staff and detainees.
