CTDOT Selects STV for Glastonbury Interchange Project

GLASTONBURY, CT – STV today announced the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) selected the firm to provide construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services at the Route 17 and New London Turnpike interchange in Glastonbury. 

The project will address vital operational, safety and structural needs at the interchange including: 

  • Removal of two aging bridges 
  • Full bridge deck replacement 
  • Elimination of the at-grade Route 17 Southbound Off-Ramp 
  • 400 feet of lane widening along Oak Street and reconfiguration of its intersection with New London Turnpike 
  • Full replacement of all traffic signal equipment with new span poles utilizing video and radar detection systems 
  • Pedestrian improvements throughout the project area 
  • Installation of new overheads signs along Route 17 northbound 

The centerpiece of the project involves construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of New London Turnpike and Route 17 southbound ramps near Douglas Road. The roundabout will feature a distinctive 20-foot stamped asphalt apron along with additional pedestrian safety elements carefully integrated into the design.

As part of this project, STV is providing a specialized team who have previously worked on successful CEI projects for CTDOT, including highway and bridge construction, rehabilitation and replacement projects. STV has a long-standing track record of providing a wide range of engineering design, program management and construction management services supporting transformative transportation infrastructure programs in the area. Select projects include the I-95 West River Bridge, CTfastrak New Britain-Hartford Busway,  Arrigoni Bridge Rehabilitation, Interchange 33, Connecticut River Mainline Bridge 47.90, Saugatuck River Bridge Replacement and Connecticut River Bridge Replacement.
