The I‑Move Kentucky design‑build program – the largest design-build highway initiative in the Commonwealth’s history – has been honored with a Grand Awardat the American Council of Engineering Companies of Kentucky (ACEC Kentucky) Engineering Excellence Awards.
Spanning 28 miles of Interstates 64, 71 and 265 in the Louisville region, the program modernized one of Kentucky’s most heavily traveled corridors, long challenged by congestion, outdated interchanges and safety concerns. Serving as lead designer for the Hall Contracting design‑build team, STV partnered closely with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) to deliver the $180 million program under a fixed budget – keeping drivers moving throughout construction while improving long-term safety, mobility and value for the region.
“I‑Move Kentucky represents what’s possible when innovation and collaboration are embedded into the design‑build process from the very beginning,” said Peter Overmohle, vice president and Kentucky area manager at STV. “By aligning design, construction and community needs early, we were able to deliver real safety and mobility improvements for the region. This recognition from ACEC Kentucky speaks to the team’s discipline, creativity and commitment to delivering lasting value for the Commonwealth.”

Working alongside KYTC and Hall Contracting, STV advanced a series of Alternative Technical Concepts (ATCs) that strengthened constructability, reduced long-term maintenance needs and reinvested cost savings into additional safety enhancements. Among these improvements was Kentucky’s first partial turbine interchange at I‑265 and I‑64, designed to eliminate hazardous weaving movements while fitting within the existing right‑of‑way.
Delivered on schedule and within budget, I‑Move Kentucky now serves more than 100,000 drivers each day, delivering smoother traffic flow, improved safety and a new benchmark for best‑value design‑build delivery in Kentucky.
