Pittsburgh engineer Joseph Garlicki, P.E., has a longstanding history with the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (PSPE) Pittsburgh Chapter. In recognition of his 16 years of involvement, including one year serving as President, he recently received the Chapter’s Dedicated Service Award at its E-Week (National Engineers Week) Awards Banquet.
“I am honored to receive this award from my PSPE peers,” Garlicki said. “The organization, which brings together engineers from all disciplines, means a lot to me. Its members’ dedication to the profession and upholding of P.E. licensure have always inspired me. I hope to return the favor of this award by being an inspiration to others in our industry.
Garlicki’s first exposure to PSPE came when he was in seventh grade when he participated in its MATHCOUNTS program, a math competition for students in grades 6-8. He now proudly volunteers each year for Pittsburgh’s MATHCOUNTS event and is the Secretary of the Pennsylvania Engineering Foundation, which oversees the PSPE program at the state level.
“Because I was introduced to math and engineering at a young age, I feel strongly that we should do what we can as engineering professionals to introduce all students to STEM careers,” he added.
Garlicki joined STV in 2009 and currently serves as a senior engineer in the Transportation Northeast group. He has over 23 years of experience in bridge design, analysis, rating, and construction services, and has provided design and quality assurance services for many notable STV projects, including the I-95 Betsy Ross Interchange; the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement; Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s Green Line Extension light rail project in Boston; and Metro’s Purple (D) Line Extension project in Los Angeles.
In addition to his PSPE involvement, Garlicki is a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers’ Pittsburgh Section and the Lawrenceville Historical Society in Pittsburgh.
