STV Structural Engineer Named Mentor of the Year

Elizabeth Lisk, PE, a structural engineer in STV’s buildings group, was recently honored as the 2024 Mentor of the Year by the ACE Mentor Program of Greater New York (ACE GNY).

The ACE Mentor Program provides a free, after-school opportunity for high school students to explore careers in the design and construction industry. Each year, the GNY chapter recognizes one exceptional mentor with the Mentor of the Year award. As the 2024 recipient, Lisk will be ACE GNY’s nominee for the national ENR–ACE Outstanding Mentor award. In recognition of her dedication, ACE GNY will also award a scholarship in her name to one of the chapter’s students in Spring 2025.

Lisk has had a remarkable journey through the ACE Mentor Program. She began as a protégé in the program on STV’s team and eventually transitioned to a mentor as she worked for the organization first as an intern and now as a full-time employee.

“The ACE Mentor Program has been a cornerstone of my career in structural engineering,” Lisk said. “It introduced me to this incredible industry, helped me choose my major, secure an internship and eventually land a full-time job. Now, as a mentor, I hope to inspire our students just as I was inspired.”

Lisk was nominated for this award by a group of fellow STV mentors and was ultimately selected by ACE GNY’s Board.

“We nominated Liz because she demonstrates her dedication and passion for the students in the ACE program week after week,” said Christian Denave, structural engineering specialist at STV. “Liz is an outstanding mentor who not only shares her vast technical knowledge but also offers valuable college and career advice. It’s clear that she finds immense gratification in giving back to both the program and the community.”

Lisk received her award at the annual Mentor Summer Social in early August. Hosted by the GNY Mentor Committee, this event celebrates those who make a positive impact on the AEC community by mentoring high school students throughout the school year and sharing their knowledge and passion with the next generation of professionals.

“Through ACE, I continue to grow not only technically but also in expanding my understanding of other disciplines, staying informed on industry trends and strengthening my leadership skills,” Lisk said during her acceptance speech at the event. “But above all, the joy of working with students and seeing their growth is unmatched. There’s nothing like watching a student take pride in their work, eager to learn more and excited to return each week.”
