Barbara Hoehne, P.E., associate and engineering director, has been named the 2021 WTS Central Pennsylvania Woman of the Year.
For more than 25 years, Hoehne has been a stand-out member of the Pennsylvania transportation community, working to improve the state’s infrastructure by serving as lead design engineer and project manager for dozens of highway and bridge projects. She joined STV’s Harrisburg office in 2014 and today serves as a senior project manager and the civil/highway discipline lead in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The Woman of the Year award honors a leader and outstanding role model in the transportation industry.
“Every time I speak with Barb, I’m re-energized to become a better engineer,” said Helene Brennan, P.E., PMP, LEED® AP BD+C, ENV SP, senior civil engineer.
Outside of the office, in addition to WTS, Hoehne devotes time to organizations including the American Society of Highway Engineers and American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania.
“I encourage everyone to look for opportunities to get involved with professional societies like WTS, to grow your network and take on leadership roles,” Hoehne said. When she receives the WTS Central PA Woman of the Year award in a virtual ceremony on March 24, Hoehne will join the ranks of esteemed past recipients like Leslie Richards, the first woman secretary of transportation in Pennsylvania; two consulting engineering firm presidents; and more.
“It is an honor to be in the company of these women, with all that they have achieved,” Hoehne said. “It means so much to be recognized by the WTS board and my STV colleagues who nominated me. In our day-to-day activities and over the course of your career, you don’t fully realize the positive impact that you can have on others.”
