NEWARK, NJ – STV today announced that the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) has selected the firm to deliver construction inspection services for the westbound Newark Bay Bridge trestle, a critical early phase of the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension (NBHCE) Improvements Program. The work supports the long-term replacement of one of the region’s busiest crossings and will enhance safety, reliability and resilience for thousands of daily motorists, as well as commercial vehicles and trucks headed to the ports.

The project includes construction of new foundations in Newark Bay, installation of structural steel and temporary work bridges above the bay, as well as roadway reconstruction and drainage improvements. The work will occur within an active transportation corridor and navigable waterway, requiring close coordination with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the U.S. Coast Guard, local agencies in Newark and Bayonne, utility owners and other regional stakeholders.

“Complex bridge programs demand disciplined planning, precise execution and constant collaboration,” said Jim Takacs, PE, CCM, deputy project manager at STV. “By supporting this early phase, we’re helping NJTA set the foundation for a safer, more resilient crossing that will strengthen this critical connection for the region.”

Construction of the two advanced trestles is one component of NJTA’s long-term modernization of the Newark Bay–Hudson County Extension. The broader program includes rebuilding 4.1 miles of roadway, replacing 16 bridges and the existing Newark Bay Bridge with new cable-stayed spans. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and extend over the next decade.

STV provides construction management, inspection and quality assurance services for complex bridge and transportation infrastructure across the region. The firm’s recent work includes NJ TRANSIT’s Portal North Bridge Replacement and Long Slip Fill and Rail Improvement Project, the New York State Department of Transportation’s Kosciuszko Bridge Replacement, Amtrak’s Sawtooth Bridge Replacement and the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission’s Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement.

In New Jersey, STV provides comprehensive planning, design, engineering and construction management services. Major projects include Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal A, Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission resilience improvements, the Glassboro-Camden Line Environmental Impact Statement, Garden State Parkway widening and the Palisades Interstate Parkway Helix Ramp Replacement.
