LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – STV today announced a new contract with the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) to support the conversion of the Route 202 New Hope-Lambertville Toll Bridge to an open road cashless all-electronic tolling (AET) system.
As part of this contract, STV will provide construction management and construction inspection (CM/CI) services and oversee this prototype project, which will serve as the model for modernizing six other DRJTBC toll bridges across the Delaware River in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. STV’s local CM/CI team will collaborate with the firm’s national tolling experts to ensure safe, efficient project delivery.
“Cashless tolls are a win-win-win for communities. They shave minutes off commutes, reduce emissions and help fund future transportation improvements,” said Jeremy Jelus, resident engineer for the project at STV. “STV is proud to partner with the Commission and set these new standards for toll bridges across the region.”
The 1,682-foot-long New Hope-Lambertville Toll Bridge, which opened to traffic in 1971, currently carries approximately 13,800 vehicles per day over the Delaware River between Pennsylvania and New Jersey via Route 202. This comprehensive modernization project will:
- Remove the bridge’s former cash-collection toll plaza;
- Construct a single-full span gantry with all-electronic toll collection equipment;
- Eliminate the northbound Route 202 roadway deviation;
- Modify the existing building access tunnel;
- Reconstruct the bridge’s Pennsylvania abutment backwall;
- Implement roadway realignment for improved traffic flow.
STV has delivered transformative bridge and interchange projects throughout the region, including the I-95/I-276 Interchange, the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) Accelerated Bridge Construction Program, which was the PTC’s first accelerated bridge construction project. STV’s national tolling portfolio includes Section 100 I-95 in Maryland, where the firm streamlined an interchange known as the “spaghetti bowl” to ease traffic congestion in Baltimore County; the I-490/IL 390 Interchange Project in Illinois, where the firm is providing direct western access to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport for the first time; and major Texas connectors including US 290 Toll/SH 130 and the Sam Rayburn Tollway/Dallas North Tollway Interchange, showcasing STV’s ability to integrate advanced technologies with strategic infrastructure design to optimize mobility.
