Employees in STV’s Philadelphia office recently hosted a group of young women in middle and high school to help them learn more about professional roles in the transportation industry as part of a Women’s Transportation Seminar’s (WTS) Transportation YOU mentoring event.

Technical Director/Engineering Director Barbara Hoehne, P.E., spoke about both her personal and professional experiences, as well as current and future industry trends. Engineering Specialists Gina Venuto-Gabriella and Serena Yombe discussed how their high school, college, and professional backgrounds led to their current roles within the firm.

The event also invited students to share their own “vision boards” for the future and included a “marble run” activity that challenged them to achieve the longest run time by sending marbles down a track made of cardboard tubes.

Transportation YOU is a hands-on, interactive mentoring program that is run by WTS and offers young girls, ages 13-to-18, an introduction to a wide variety of transportation careers. The program’s signature event is the DC Summit in June.
