The single cab, dual-mode ALP-45DP is a first-of-a-kind locomotive in North America that changes the way thousands of commuters use mass transportation every day. By running on either diesel power or overhead catenary electric power, this locomotive offers more flexibility and operational efficiency than its predecessors.
Deployed by NJ TRANSIT in New Jersey and Montreal’s Agence Métropolitaine de Transport, now called Exo, the dual mode locomotives reflect both agencies’ commitment to sustainable and reliable commuter rail services.
STV provided design, inspection, testing and other engineering support services for the procurement of 35 dual-powered locomotives for NJ TRANSIT and 20 locomotives for Exo. The locomotive first debuted in New Jersey and can achieve speeds as high as 100 miles per hour in diesel mode and 125 miles per hour in electric mode while producing less noise and exhaust than its predecessors.
This landmark effort was recognized with Engineering Excellence Awards at the regional and national levels by the American Council of Engineering Companies.
