Slippery Rock University’s Boozel Dining Hall underwent a full transformation to become a modern, student‑centered dining destination. STV provided architectural, interior design and engineering services for the complete renovation, replacing an outdated facility with a dynamic, amenity‑rich environment anchored by a central Brazilian Churrasco grill. A new 2,000‑square‑foot lobby and glass‑enclosed atrium expanded the building’s footprint, creating space for a dedicated take‑out station and streamlined queuing, significantly improving the student experience during peak dining hours.
What challenges did STV address?
The university sought to elevate its primary dining hall with a contemporary, high‑capacity design that could accommodate varied dining preferences and new service models. STV needed to reorganize the building layout, integrate open‑kitchen concepts, improve circulation and incorporate new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems – all while creating an inviting environment that supported social interaction and campus vibrancy.
What solutions did STV deliver?
STV’s design introduced eight open‑kitchen food stations offering diverse menu options and clear visibility into food preparation. The interior features an array of seating types – including booths, high‑top bar tables and diner‑style counters equipped with outlets – to support both dining and informal study. Updated infrastructure systems ensured modern performance, safety and energy efficiency. The new atrium lobby improves flow and brings natural light into the heart of the facility, establishing a welcoming entry experience.
How does this project benefit the community?
The renovated Boozel Dining Hall enhances daily campus life by offering students a vibrant, comfortable and flexible dining environment. Its modern amenities foster social engagement, support academic success and reflect the university’s commitment to student well‑being.
