Charlotte Water Little Sugar Creek Tributary Sewer

With projected population growth peaking at over four million by 2040, Charlotte Water’s (CLTWater) Little Sugar Creek Tributary sewers faced limitations in their ability to support present-day and estimated demands. For this improvement program, STV designed over 7,000 feet of new sewers.

Little Sugar Creek sewers span three diverse communities with three distinct landscapes: a county-run public park, a residential neighborhood, and a commercial neighborhood with a complex utility infrastructure. STV coordinated across all three communities as the firm conducted environmental permitting, geotechnical investigation and easement plant development. The design featured two micro-tunnel bored casings crossings of solid rock, yet minimized the removal of hardwood trees and avoided an earthen dam.

STV also provided construction management services for the project, which was recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies in North Carolina.

Revamping an aging sewer system to meet projected demands in one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.
