As a key component of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority’s ongoing commitment to improve facilities and alleviate overcrowding throughout the Garden State, the new Dr. Hani Awadallah Elementary School seats 650 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. It houses an academic wing/media center, central wing with classrooms and administration, and a third wing with a gymnasium and cafetorium.
STV provided construction management services for this award-winning program, which was honored by the national Construction Management Association of America with a Project Achievement Award.
As construction was underway and while maintaining the project schedule, STV collaborated with the project team to have key elements of the original design, such as the HVAC and building information technology systems, redesigned to current standards. Additionally, STV’s team worked with the contractor to install the project’s one-of-a-kind pedestrian bridge spanning adjacent, active rail lines in three-and-a-half hours overnight without disrupting NJ TRANSIT’s commuter schedule or incurring complaints from the community.
South Paterson students safely crossed the bridge to attend their first classes when the new 21st-century school opened.
