DriveOhio Connected Vehicle (V2X) Deployment Plan

STV is developing a statewide connected vehicle (CV) deployment plan to support the Ohio Department of Transportation’s DriveOhio initiative. The effort responds directly to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National V2X Deployment Plan and is intended to guide Ohio’s approach to implementing connected vehicle technologies across its roadway network. STV’s work focuses on planning for Cellular Vehicle‑to‑Everything (C‑V2X) and Vehicle‑to‑Network (V2N) technologies that enable communication between infrastructure, vehicles and motorists, supporting safer, more efficient travel statewide.

What challenges is STV addressing?

Ohio sought a coordinated, statewide strategy for deploying connected vehicle technologies that aligns with national guidance while advancing the state’s smart mobility goals. The initiative required a comprehensive planning approach that addressed technology strategy, policy considerations, funding pathways and stakeholder coordination to support consistent, standards‑compliant implementation across the state.

What solutions is STV delivering?

STV is providing connected vehicle deployment planning services to develop a comprehensive statewide V2X strategy. The scope includes recommendations for the deployment of C‑V2X and V2N technologies, stakeholder communications support, policy research and recommendations related to funding initiatives. The plan is intended to serve as a practical framework for implementing connected vehicle infrastructure that supports safety, mobility and traveler information systems throughout Ohio.

How will this project benefit traveling in Ohio?

The deployment plan supports the creation of smarter roadways across Ohio, helping to reduce crashes, improve travel efficiency and enhance motorist safety. By advancing interoperable, standards‑compliant connected vehicle infrastructure, the work also positions Ohio as a national model for smart mobility planning and implementation.
