To ease congestion and enhance safety for motorists, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority initiated its first all-electronic tollway along the Creek Turnpike at the Elm Street interchange in Jenks, OK. STV provided engineering and environmental permitting services for the interchange reconstruction that accommodates this crucial improvement.
The project encompassed the realignment of the westbound exit ramp and westbound entrance ramp to eliminate one of three intersections along Elm Street and allow the interchange to function more efficiently following the anticipated increase in traffic.
The project team also developed a U-turn on the east side of the interchange to alleviate traffic through the intersection by allowing traffic a free turning movement that could access the eastbound entrance ramp to the turnpike as well as a newly created frontage road that facilitates development along the Arkansas River.
