Envision My Ride Bus Corridor Study

Envision My Ride is a major planning initiative led by the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) to redesign and enhance the city’s bus network. The program focuses on improving service frequency, streamlining routes and elevating overall standards of accessibility and customer experience. As a subconsultant to Kittelson & Associates, Inc., STV supported this effort by developing recommendations that ensured planned improvements complied with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and advanced equitable mobility across the system.

What challenges did STV address?

CATS sought to modernize a legacy bus system while addressing accessibility gaps that affected riders with disabilities. The challenge required evaluating existing stop conditions, identifying ADA deficiencies and developing a long‑term strategy that supports more accessible and reliable transit service. An important component of the effort also involved estimating the scale and cost of needed improvements to help the agency responsibly plan future investments.

What solutions did STV deliver?

STV provided ADA‑focused planning expertise, including accessibility assessments, improvement recommendations and cost estimation services. This work helped CATS develop a comprehensive ADA transition plan that identified, prioritized and budgeted for system‑wide accessibility upgrades. As planning progressed, STV’s recommendations could potentially shape future corridor enhancements such as dedicated bus‑only lanes, upgraded amenities at bus stops and mobility hubs including park‑and‑ride locations and transfer facilities.

How does this project benefit the region?

The Envision My Ride study will create a more inclusive, efficient and reliable transit system. By focusing on accessibility and future operational enhancements, the project promotes equitable mobility across Charlotte and enhances the daily experience of riders who depend on bus service for work, school and essential trips.
