The March 2024 collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge was a tragic event that also severely impacted a vital transportation link that carried the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) over the Patapsco River. Prior to its collapse, the bridge served an estimated 11.5 million vehicles annually.
On behalf of the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), STV, in joint venture with Michael Baker International, is providing construction management and inspection (CMI) services for the Francis Scott Key Bridge’s reconstruction. The team is supporting this progressive design-build project – which will cost an estimated $1.7 to $1.9 billion – through all phases of construction, including during design development, so as to meet the projected opening in 2028.
Prior to this contract, STV played a key role in the bridge’s recovery efforts, including providing construction engineering and inspection services supporting 24/7 recovery operations.
