Global Gateway Connector Bridge

As part of a multi-use trail project in the City of College Park, the Global Gateway Connector Bridge establishes a new connection between the city’s historic downtown and the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC). Located just a few hundred feet from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, it is the centerpiece of a $13.7 million contract that also includes supporting walls and surrounding multi-use trail improvements. The 200-foot-long arch suspension bridge spans the four-lane Camp Creek Parkway and accommodates both pedestrians and cyclists. The structure is distinguished by its 80-foot-tall steel basket-handle arch and suspended deck with custom architectural rail and fence detailing.

As a subconsultant to Prime Engineering, STV served as the bridge engineer-of-record, providing complete structural design, construction documents and construction administration services for the bridge and mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) approach ramp walls supporting the access ramps. The approach ramp walls incorporate an aesthetic façade to complement the bridge’s striking design. The design meets AASHTO, ADA and Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) standards for width, maximum grade, clearances, loading and railing requirements. The project was delivered following the GDOT Plan Development Process.

Now complete, the Global Gateway Connector Bridge serves as both a visual landmark and a crucial infrastructure upgrade, improving walkability and accessibility by providing a seamless pedestrian link between downtown College Park and the GICC.
