To reduce congestion and enhance operational efficiency on the Henry Hudson Bridge, a 2,208-foot fixed-arch bridge that connects the Bronx to Upper Manhattan, open road tolling was integrated along the structure. On behalf of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, STV provided construction engineering and inspection services for the rehabilitation of the bridge’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as the upper- and lower-level toll plazas and southbound approach.
The team’s scope included overseeing the installation of open road tolling, relocation and replacement of utilities and underground storage tanks, installation of spare fiber optic lines, pavement reconstruction, drainage, new barrier installation, roadway striping, maintenance and protection of traffic, parks mitigation and toll equipment enclosures.
STV supervised the construction sequences and inspected the quality of the construction work. The team also managed the installation of a new power distribution and emergency generator, which involved supervising cutover from the existing system to the new system without interruption to bridge operations.
