I-Move Kentucky

I‑Move Kentucky is a four‑year, $180 million design‑build program that delivered major mobility, safety and quality‑of‑life improvements along some of the state’s busiest highway corridors. The program advanced four priority projects identified through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s (KYTC) SHIFT initiative, encompassing upgrades to I‑265, I‑71 and I‑64 across Jefferson and Oldham Counties. Improvements included interstate widening, interchange modernization and Kentucky’s first partial turbine interchange, all designed to improve travel flow and reduce congestion in one of the fastest‑growing regions in the state.

What challenges did STV address?

KYTC sought a design‑build partner capable of managing multiple high‑priority improvements across interconnected corridors while minimizing disruptions to daily travel. The project involved complex urban freeway conditions, freight movement considerations and significant geometrics at several interchanges. Coordinating survey, utility, structural and geotechnical needs across 28 miles of roadway required a unified design approach that could support contractor efficiency and meet aggressive delivery timelines.

What solutions did STV deliver?

As design lead for the HALL Contracting design‑build team, STV provided comprehensive services in roadway design, utilities, structures, surveying and geotechnical engineering. The team developed conceptual bridge designs, performed technical consultation and executed QA/QC for key structures. STV also completed full design and detailing for a 20‑foot reinforced concrete retaining wall that meets new crash wall standards. Program‑wide improvements included five new bridges, eight bridge widenings, 5.7 miles of noise barrier walls and nine RCBC extensions.

How does this project benefit the community?

The completed program improves capacity, reduces travel times and enhances safety across critical commuter and freight routes. The modernized interchanges and added lanes create smoother travel, reduce weaving conflict points and support long‑term economic growth for the Louisville metropolitan area.
