The LAX/Metro Transit Center Station at Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street creates a major new connection between Los Angeles’ regional transit network and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The $900 million multimodal facility serves Metro’s C and K Lines and connects riders with bus, bicycle and airport shuttle services.
What challenges did STV address?
Connecting Los Angeles’ rail network with LAX required evaluating multiple airport transit concepts and coordinating complex transportation infrastructure across agencies. Planning needed to determine an effective location and approach for integrating regional rail with airport facilities and the future Automated People Mover (APM).
What solutions did STV deliver?
As part of the Connect LAX joint venture, STV co-led planning and conceptual design and helped facilitate an interagency consultation framework that led to the selection and integration of the 96th Street station with LAX’s Consolidated Rental Car facility and APM. STV conducted alternatives analyses, prepared CEQA and NEPA documentation, and provided public engagement and national and international benchmarking services.
How does this project benefit the community/region/market?
The station expands transportation options for airport travelers and employees while strengthening connections between LAX and communities across Los Angeles. The facility connects the C and K rail lines with six Metro bus lines and eight municipal bus lines, along with other mobility services. The station is also positioned to provide a direct connection with the airport’s APM.
