NJ TRANSIT Meadows Maintenance Complex
Originally designed by STV, the Meadows Maintenance Complex is NJ TRANSIT’s main facility for upkeeping its fleet of rail vehicles. An increase in activity necessitated a high-priority expansion project at the complex. STV worked under a tight deadline to provide design services as part of a NJ TRANSIT program aimed at vehicle performance while lowering overall maintenance costs.
The project scope integrated a 10,000-square-foot train washer building, an expanded service and inspection building, and an additional storage structure. STV also designed a 13,000-square-foot locomotive shop expansion to house a 100-ton drop-table, along with expansions for the facility’s Building 1 and Building 4 to make way for a high-bay warehouse, inspection track, and cleaning space. The firm’s phasing plans cut project length by six months and minimized potential interference with the operational facility. With the project site close to a wetlands in the area, STV completed geotechnical and environmental investigations.
