NS RAPID Bus Rapid Transit

The Town of Chapel Hill selected STV to provide construction management services for NS RAPID, a $197 million, federally supported bus rapid transit (BRT) investment in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The 8.2-mile line will connect riders to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Southern Village, UNC medical facilities and park-and-ride hubs.

What challenges is STV addressing?

NS RAPID is designed to improve reliability and travel times along Chapel Hill’s busiest multimodal corridor while maintaining mobility during construction. Delivering the project also requires coordination across contractors, utilities and federal funding requirements.

What solutions is STV delivering?

STV will act as an extension of Chapel Hill Transit staff, providing construction management services including contractor coordination, cost and schedule controls, utility relocation, safety and quality assurance, and federal compliance. The project is funded in part through the Federal Transit Administration’s Small Starts program.

How will this project benefit the community?

NS RAPID will make it easier for riders to reach destinations including classes, workplaces, healthcare, shopping and home. More than five miles of dedicated bus-only lanes, 29 stations with premium amenities and traffic signal upgrades are designed to improve reliability and travel times.
